The Dos and Don’ts of Preparing for a Boudoir Shoot

Hey hey!

Preparing for a boudoir shoot can be both exciting and nerve-wracking, but with the right guidance, you can ensure a smooth and empowering experience. As a boudoir photographer, I’ve had the privilege of working with many clients, and I’d like to share some essential dos and don’ts to help you prepare for your boudoir session.

**The Dos:**

**1. **Do Communicate Openly:** Effective communication is key. Share your vision, preferences, and any concerns with us. The more we know about your expectations, the better we can tailor the session to your needs.

**2. **Do Choose Outfits Wisely:** Select outfits that make you feel confident and beautiful. Whether it’s lingerie, cozy sweaters, or something entirely unique, opt for pieces that align with your style and comfort level.

**3. **Do Stay Hydrated and Rested:** Proper hydration and rest are essential for a fresh and vibrant appearance. Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the shoot, STRETCH and ensure you get a good night’s sleep.

**4. **Do Consider Professional Hair and Makeup:** Professional hair and makeup can enhance your confidence and ensure you look your best in front of the camera. Discuss your desired look with a makeup artist and hairstylist, and schedule an appointment for the day of the shoot. This is included with our Luxury Boudoir Experience.

**5. **Do Prepare Poses and Expressions:** Spend some time practicing poses and expressions in front of a mirror. You don’t need to be an expert; just have a few ideas in mind to help you feel more comfortable during the session. I will fully direct your shoot, so just follow my guidance and we’ll capture truly beautiful poses together.

**6. **Do Bring Personal Items:** If you have meaningful items or props you’d like to incorporate into the shoot, such as a favorite book, piece of jewelry, or even a pet, feel free to bring them along. These personal touches can add depth and authenticity to your images.

**The Don’ts:**

**1. **Don’t Overthink It:** It’s natural to feel nervous, but don’t overthink the details. Trust in your boudoir photographer’s expertise, and remember that the focus is on celebrating your unique beauty and sensuality.

**2. **Don’t Try New Skincare or Beauty Products:** Leading up to your session, avoid trying new skincare or beauty products that could cause adverse reactions. Stick to your usual routine to ensure your skin looks and feels its best.

**3. **Don’t Rush:** Avoid rushing on the day of the shoot. Plan to arrive with plenty of time to spare, so you can relax, unwind, and get into the right frame of mind.

**4. **Don’t Starve Yourself:** Crash diets or extreme fasting before the session can leave you feeling fatigued and irritable. Focus on nourishing your body with balanced meals to ensure you have the energy for the day.

**5. **Don’t Stress About Perfection:** Boudoir photography is about celebrating your authentic self, imperfections and all. Don’t stress about minor flaws; they are part of what makes you beautifully unique.

Preparing for a boudoir shoot is an exciting journey of self-celebration and empowerment. By following these dos and don’ts, you can ensure a positive and confidence-boosting experience that results in stunning images that celebrate your unique beauty.

You may have noticed that our studio isn’t open for walk-ins. There’s a reason for that. In a world that rushes women through everything, their beauty routines, their emotions, their healing…I chose to slow things down. Every session in my studio is intentional. Designed. Sacred. And that starts with honoring your time and space before […]

If you’ve ever wondered what actually happens during a boudoir session, you’re not alone. Most women walk through my studio doors carrying the same quiet thoughts. “What if I don’t know how to pose?”“What if I don’t look like the women on your website?”“What if I can’t relax?” “Let me be clear” You’re not expected […]
