A Day in the Life of a Luxury Boudoir Photographer: Behind the Scenes

Hello Beautiful,

Boudoir photography is a unique blend of art, empowerment, and self-expression. As a luxury boudoir photographer, my day-to-day is not just about taking pictures; it's about creating empowering experiences that resonate with women and couples that value self-expression, sensuality, elegance and confidence. In this blog, I’ll give you a behind-the-scenes look at my life as a professional boudoir photographer. In my studio, every image captures more than a moment – it captures the essence of who you are and tells your story.

FIRST, HERE’S WHY I CHOSE THIS CAREER

As the owner of Latasha Nicole Boudoir Photography Studio, my "why" is deeply rooted in a journey of personal transformation and empowerment. My own path, marked by moments of vulnerability and rediscovery, ignited a passion to help other women embark on a similar journey of self-love and acceptance.

From storytelling in childhood to producing my own films, my creative evolution has always been intertwined with exploring and expressing emotional narratives. Yet, it was through my personal experiences of self-doubt, a transformative relationship, and the realization of the power of self-love that the vision for this studio was born. I saw firsthand how self-love creates a boundary that defines how we allow the world to treat us and the energy we invite into our lives.

Boudoir photography, in my eyes, is an emotionally rich and vulnerable canvas. It's not just about capturing photos. For me, boudoir is about narrating the profound stories of women through images that evoke curiosity, emotion, and connection. I strive to capture the essence of who you are, not just who you appear to be. I challenge myself to go beyond the surface, inviting each woman to reveal her story, her emotions, her truths.

Every session is a therapeutic journey. As we navigate through a spectrum of emotions, from joy to introspection, we create a space for emotional release and revelation. The goal of each session is to foster a transformative experience that reshapes how women see themselves.

Our success is measured by the emotional breakthroughs and the empowering transformations we witness. It's about pushing boundaries, exceeding expectations, and inspiring profound changes in self-perception.

Looking ahead, I envision Latasha Nicole Boudoir Photography Studio as a safe space of empowerment and self-love. I have aspirations to expand into a lingerie line, empowerment coaching, and become a recognized voice in emotive photography. My  mission is to continue inspiring women to embrace their stories and celebrate their unique beauty, without consideration of their weight, in the most luxurious and authentic way possible.

Morning Preparation: The Essence of Focus

My day as a boudoir photographer starts with personal rituals that help me clear my mind and focus on creating the mental and emotional space that I require for a successful session. Whether it's through meditation, breathing exercises, or enjoying a peaceful and quiet moment with my morning cup of coffee, a good morning routine is crucial to getting my mind in the right headspace as I prepare to capture my incredible clients. I go through my equipment bag to ensure that I have everything that’s needed for the session. For the techies out there, here’s what’s in my camera bag:

  • Main Camera: Canon 5d Mark IV

  • Lenses: 35mm, 50mm, 85mm

Studio Setup: Crafting the Perfect Environment

After arriving at my boudoir photography studio, my team and I begin to prepare the space. We’ll rearrange furniture, fire up the music and pull out any wardrobe or props that you have selected as a session add-on. Every element, from the decor to the strategic lighting, is designed to create a welcoming and comfortable environment. This attention to detail ensures that my clients feel safe and welcome in my space and helps my studio stands out as a top choice for women looking to experience the beautiful world of boudoir photography.

Client Interaction: Building Trust and Comfort

When clients arrive, my immediate focus is their emotional safety and comfort. I personally greet all of my clients and at this point, we’ve fostered a great personal connection, so this always feels like that moment when I’m seeing one of my best friends for the first time in while, after tons of emails, phone calls and texts! We go over our intentions for the session to ensure that I have a clear understanding their vision and can address any concerns. This is key to a successful boudoir experience. This initial interaction lays the foundation for a photoshoot that’s as comfortable as it is empowering.

The Transformation Experience: Hair, Makeup, and Styling

Working with our professional hair and makeup artist offers each of our clients a completely transformation experience. This phase is not just about external beauty; it’s about helping clients feel confident and sensual, two key ingredients for any luxury boudoir experience. You’ll meet our professional hair and makeup artist and we’ll take a look at the wardrobe you’ve brought to your session. You’ll inform the artist if you’d like your hair curled or straightened (fun fact: there’s no wrong answer) and they’ll get started creating a look that will have you feeling confident in your close-up. All you have to do here is sit back, relax and we’ve got the rest.

The Photoshoot: Capturing Confidence and Sensuality

Before we begin the photoshoot, we’ll clear out the studio to ensure complete privacy during your session. We’ll ground ourselves and get ready to have a fun and empowering session. During the photoshoot, my role extends to directing and encouraging. I strive to capture the unique beauty and sensuality of each client, making every session a personalized experience. This is where the art of boudoir photography truly comes to life. With my posing and expression guidance, you will never wonder what to do with your hands, what expression to make, or how to pose. Just follow my posing guidance and I promise you, no matter your build, size, weight etc., we can create truly beautiful portraits during your session that will have you feeling yourself for a long time to come.

AFTER THE SESSION: TURNING IMAGES INTO Art

During an average photo shoot, I capture anywhere from 300-500 images. My biggest flaw is that I tend to overshoot! That’s totally fine because the post-photoshoot phase involves careful culling images and narrowing them down so that I am only presenting the absolute best captures to you! Once I narrow them down, I do a light edit and prepare for you to view your images for the first time.

The Big Reveal: SHOWING YOUR PORTRAITS

The photo reveal is a moment of triumph and emotion. It's rewarding to see clients view their images, often a transformative experience in their journey of self-love and empowerment. This is where the true impact of boudoir photography is felt. My clients get to see themselves in ways that they may not have before. This builds confidence, this helps them feel so proud of themselves for facing their nerves, challenging themselves and conquering this liberating experience. Once you’ve selected the images for your collection, they will be sent to our editor for final retouching and then sent to the lab for production of your print products, which takes roughly 6-8 weeks for completion.

And, That’s a Wrap: Beyond the Session

I typically end session days by relaxing in my tub, surrounded by candles, sipping a glass of wine and listening to a meditation to help return my mind and energy to its normal state. I reflect on the day and of course, I think about things I could have done differently or improvements that I want to make to my studio’s version of a luxury boudoir experience.

I always remind myself that being a boudoir photographer is about more than capturing images. It’s about offering a experience that empowers and celebrates women, helping them see their beauty and strength through the eyes of my lens. I ask myself if there is anything that I could do differently to make sure my clients feel proud of themselves for taking this journey.

These sessions are powerful for both myself and my clients as each session contributes to a shared greater narrative of self-acceptance and confidence, making every day in this profession deeply fulfilling. I am so grateful to have truly found my passion and I can’t wait to meet the next gorgeous woman that steps into my studio!

Until next time,
XoXo,
Tasha
